Introduction
The Folly at Settle's holiday apartment is the ground floor of the north range of a historic building. Its Grade 1 Listing and interior layout do not lend it to wheelchair access but once inside, everything is on the level, apart from the garden. Because of its historic character, it does not have the range of disabled facilities that would be expected in a modern building. Even so, a number of our guests with disabilities have told us that they value the convenience of its location.
Pre-Arrival
- Bookings can be made by email or telephone
- The Folly is near the middle of Settle, with all facilities very close by.
- Settle Railway Station is about 1/4 mile away. Buses stop in the Market Place, 300 yards away.
- We can provide information in large print.
- There is a RADAR public toilet 300 yards away.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
- Greenfoot public car park is 100 yards away.
- Guests car parking is right alongside the front door on a cobbled area with a slight slope.
- There on on-street parking to the front of The Folly between 6pm and 8am
Main Entrance & Reception
- The front door is 76cm wide
- There are three semi-circular steps, 10cm deep leading to a 30cm doorstep.
- There are no hand rails.
- The key hole for the front door is 125cm high
- Inside the front door is a stone floored lobby with a right angled turn to the right, beyond which is a secondary door.
Lounge and general circulation area
- There are three settees and a dining table and six dining chairs in this area. The TV, DVD and radio have remote controls. There is central heating throughout, programmed for comfort but capable of being adjusted for circumstances of the day. There is a small library of books and local information easily accessible.
Laundry
- There is a launderette almost opposite The Folly
- Guests laundry facilities are in a shed in the garden
Shops
- There are numerous shops nearby including an excellent supermarket (Booths) with full disabled facilities.
Leisure Facilities
- There are a range of leisure facilities in Settle including a public swimming pool.
Outdoor Facilities
Settle is a walking area. None of the local footpaths are wheelchair friendly. Most are well signposted. There is pony trekking at nearby Malham and bicycle hire in Settle.
Bedroom
- There is one bedroom, with a king sized double bed, 86 cm from floor to mattress top
- Non feather duvets and pillows are provided as is a dual control electric blanket.
- There is a remote control TV in the bedroom.
Bathroom, Shower-room & WC
- The bathroom is accessed via a narrow and winding corridor, minimum width 68cm
- The bath height is 55cm
- The toilet seat height is 40cm
- There is also a wash basin, shower and bidet
Self-Catering Kitchen
- The open plan kitchen has a worktop height of 90cm
- The oven door is of the fold down type and the hob is ceramic
- Flooring is slate tiles
- There is a built in fridge with a small freezer in it
Garden
- The walled garden is accessed via a steep hill.
- Because it is on sloping ground there are steps giving access to the three separate seating and outdoor dining area. See photographs.

Fire Safety
The premises have been inspected and approved by North Yorkshire Fire Service. We are registered on the fire service computer. There are a foam fire extinguisher and a fire blanket in the kitchen area. There are fire alarms throughout the building.
